Sympathy for Dung Beetles

Sympathy (like crocodile tears) for conservative, libertarian and die-hard GOP blathermouths & editorialists condemned to shoveling the same old same old again and again (no matter how discredited by logic or events) in their never-ending battle to persuade a majority to vote against their own best interests.

LETTER TO ARGUS LEADER has 1/3 Grain of facts and Bushel of Bull--Dung beetle at work
http://www.argusleader.com/editorial/Fridayarticle2.shtml The LETTER partly copied below my comment includes "fact" indicating that Kenneth Law slept in the Lincoln Bedroom during the Clinton administration:
COMMENT ON THE LETTER
This is classic "dung beetle" work. Take a non-fact and combine it with an innocent bit of actual information and make a conspiracy or scandal. Only problem is that there is a database available which indicates that Kenneth Lay actually slept in the White House not during the Clinton
administration but during the administration of the senior Bush....father of the ever-minor twit Bush now occupying the the White House.

An article in Salon magazine happens to follow the spin-cycle on this bit of GOP slander. The article includes links to databases and indicates the trail of humbug...who used it, who debunked it, etc. If newspapers where just a bit more careful with facts in political charges, this kind of
myth would not get spread all over the country in a matter of hours. Also, all the lies about Gore's "lies" would have been stopped dead in their tracks and never have gotten national coverage. But, that is history. This is that history of slander dragged into today.

.Salon Spinsanity on Lincoln bedrrom myths

Enron tried to buy Clinton's influence published: 2/22/02

....worth a look at the facts: 1. It is now known that Enron CEO Kenneth Lay stayed overnight at the White House, in the Lincoln bedroom; 2. Lay and the president played golf together; 3. Lay was bold enough to ask the president to use governmental influence to aid his company in securing a lucrative contract on an energy plant in India. The president agreed and the contract was secured; 4. About that same time, Lay's company donated $100,000 to the president's party.

Yes, these facts are extremely troubling, however, they are troubling for the previous administration, not this one. You see, these events occurred in 1995 when the president was Bill Clinton. Ironically, Democrats who are now trying to fabricate a scandal out of nothing, can only yearn to establish a single fact similar to one of those listed above.
